Mumbai gets chilly after seeing highest Jan rain in a decade

MUMBAI: After a day of light rain, weather in city was pleasant once again on Sunday as both day and night temperatures recorded by the

IMD Colaba

and Santacruz observatory stayed on the lower side. In the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Sunday morning, rainfall recorded by the IMD

Colaba

observatory was 0.8mm while the

IMD Santacruz

observatory recorded rains of 4.1mm.

The 4 mm of rains recorded was also the highest January rains recorded in a decade.

Chilly weather condition continued till Sunday evening, owing to a cyclonic circulation of western disturbance pulling moisture from the

Arabian Sea

, said a weather official.

On Sunday, the maximum temperatures recorded by the IMD Santacruz observatory was 26.7 degree Celsius which was 4.5 degrees below normal. Sunday's day temperature was the second lowest maximum temperature recorded in the city since 2015. The lowest maximum temperature of 25.3 degrees recorded in the last one decade was also in January.

The IMD Colaba observatory also recorded maximum temperature of 26.7 degrees which is 3.8 degrees below normal. tnn
