The victim, Arjun Giri (28), a share broker from Powai, was at Juhu beach with a friend around 6:30 am when the altercation occurred.

As they stopped at a food stall, a stray dog began barking at Giri, prompting him to pick up a chair and hit the animal to drive it away. Mukhiya, who was nearby, took offense and confronted Giri.

The argument quickly turned violent when Mukhiya grabbed a knife from the food stall and attacked Giri, inflicting serious injuries on his thumb, abdomen, arms, back, head, and both hands. Giri was hospitalized but is now out of danger.

Police arrested Mukhiya the same day but have yet to recover the weapon. Mukhiya, who works as a cleaner at food stalls, is believed to be an animal lover, which may have triggered his reaction.
