MUMBAI: A grandson of
film producer
Bharat Shah (75) was arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting a cop. The producer and his son were booked in a separate assault case.
A little after 1.30am, officials of Gamdevi police station visited a pub for allegedly flouting the 1.30am deadline. A scuffle was on between two groups of patrons outside the pub. As the police intervened, a “drunk patron manhandled constable Santosh Pawar (43) and tore his uniform”, said an officer. The “drunk” man and two of his friends, including Shah’s grandson, Yash, were detained. “But Yash tried to flee and so he was taken to the police station with the other two,” said the officer.
Around 4am, Shah and his son Rajiv reached the police station. A police source said that they demanded that Yash be released and eventually got into a spat with the policemen.
“Shah provoked Yash into a fight with an inspector...,” said a police source. Also, a fresh case was registered against Yash’s father and grandfather. The bar owner in this case is also wanted.
