Mumbai Central line maintenance push: Track work taken up during Mulund–Matunga mega block

Railway workers are presently working on the Central Line railway tracks as part of the regularly scheduled mega block from Mulund to Matunga; therefore, the train services have been stopped to perform maintenance work on the Central Line where the train services are being suspended for an uninterrupted period of time.

Railway track maintenance is currently taking place by teams who are performing some critical maintenance tasks, including checking the alignment of the rails, replacing any worn-out rail components, and tightening fastenings in order to provide a safer and smoother train operation once rail services have resumed.

The work being performed on the Overhead Electric Equipment has permitted Engineers to inspect wires, Insulators and structures supporting the Wires, as this equipment cannot normally be accessed safely while the trains are operating.

Railway Workers were seen to be using Safety Equipment and closely Coordinating with their Supervisor to ensure that all appropriate measures were taken to prevent an accident during the intense maintenance activity on fully operational railway systems.

Railway Staff were performing routine maintenance checks on the signals and points along the busy Corridor in order to reduce the probability of failure and improve Operational Reliability along one of the busiest railroad corridors in Mumbai.

The mega block provided a limited window for repairs, prompting teams to work swiftly and in coordination so that all scheduled tasks could be completed before the restoration of suburban train services.

Once the block period ends, normal train operations are expected to resume, with officials confident that the maintenance work will contribute to smoother and safer journeys for commuters.

Officials said such mega blocks are essential to maintain track health, prevent breakdowns and enhance passenger safety, especially given the heavy frequency of trains on the Central line.
