footage at the international airport helped police solve a two-week-old theft and cheating case.


A domestic help, Raziya Khan alias Haseena (45) of Kurla, was arrested on Tuesday for walking away with the handbag of a co-flyer and using the ATM card in it to withdraw Rs50,000. The handbag of Farzana Begum (40) of Hyderabad was given to Khan for safekeeping while she collected her baggage after arriving from Abu Dhabi on May 12. "Khan was traced to her Kurla home,"police said. Begum's handbag had a gold chain, 1,500riyals, cosmetics and the card.

Begum, a domestic help in Riyadh, and Khan spoke at Riyadh airport, when in the immigration queue.In the complaint, Begum said: "Khan befriended me on learning that I was Indian. We were on a transit flight, so we shopped at Abu Dhabi before boarding the flight to Mumbai." DCP (zone VIII) Anil Kumbhare supervised a team of inspector Shashikant Mane, sub-inspector Aj-ay Mohite and detection staff.

"Khan claimed that she left the airport in a hurry and her intention was not to steal the bag. However, her claim fell as she was unable to give answer for fraudulently withdrawing money using victim's ATM card. The accused managed to withdraw money because the victim has scribbled on the card the 4-digit PIN," said the officer.
