MUMBAI: A 20-year-old girl was killed when the portion of one-storeyed building in central Mumbai collapsed early Monday, police said.

The bathroom portion of the Saifee building in the Byculla area collapsed at around 4:30 in the morning, trapping Noor Iram Rasool in the rubble, they said.

Rasool was taken to Nair Hospital in central Mumbai, but was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.

The removal of rubble was still on but there were no other deaths or injuries reported, civic officials said.

The building, a cessed one which is suspected to be close to 100-year-old, had about four families living in it, police added. The ground floor of the building also housed a factory which had been shut for the past 15 years.

A spokesperson for the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) said they were investigating the matter.
