Gadkari was in Virar for the golden jubilee celebrations of the Vasai Janta Sahakari Bank.

Admitting that the highway had cost the lives of many, he said the work of croncretizing the highway will begin in a month. The minister said he personally experienced the difficulties in travelling from Mumbai to Virar on the highway.

The highway came into limelight after the death of Tata Sons chairperson Cyrus Mistry in Charoti in Dahanu on September 4, 2022.

The highway has been riddled with potholes and several protests have been held. The Versova creek bridge that was virtually thrown open to for vehicles in March by Gadkari developed potholes within three months. Road contractors were booked by the Kashimira police.

Interestingly, resurfacing of the bridge was carried out on Thursday, ahead of Gadkari’s visit to Virar.

Motorists have been complaining of delays on the highway due to potholes.
