MUMBAI: Activist
Saket Gokhale
who had filed a petition in the Allahabad high court seeking a stay on the bhoomi puja ceremony of
Ram Mandir at
Ayodhya on August 5 was provided
police protection
after alleged RSS workers raised slogans outside his
Mira Road home
on Friday.
A group of men armed with placards shouted slogans of "Jai Shree Ram" outside his Kashimira home in the evening. Gokhale was quick to tweet a video of the protestors to state home minister Anil Deshmukh. The Kashimira police was directed to provide protection to Gokhale, who through his tweets said that the protestors had even threatened his mother.
The petition was quashed by the court on Friday on the ground that it was based on assumption. Gokhale tweeted that the agitation and slogan raising outside his house was not about the temple but his exposure of BJP infiltrating the Election Commission. Gokhale had on Thursday tweeted that the Maharashtra poll panel had used the BJP IT cell to issue ads.
Police officers visited Gokhale at his home. Police said that the process of filing a case against the protestors is on.
