Mumbai: 29 MBBS students at KEM hospital test positive for Covid-19

MUMBAI: At least 29 medical students from Mumbai's civic-run KEM hospital in Parel have tested positive for coronavirus.
Dean Dr Hemant Deshmukh has confirmed that a bunch of students have tested positive. Hospital sources confirmed that most of them are either asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.
Sources said that 23 out of 29 students are from second year of MBBS and six are from the first year of MBBS.About 27 out of the 29 students are believed to have taken both doses of the vaccine. However, this couldn’t be independently confirmed from the hospital.
Of the students found positive, two have been admitted to SevenHills Hospital in Andheri while others have been quarantined. It is not clear how the students got infected. But hospital sources said that they have been seeing sporadic infections among healthcare workers.
Mayor Kishori Pednekar told agencies that 23 MBBS students have tested positive. “All were vaccinated with at least one dose of vaccine. Some of them have mild symptoms. It may have spread due to some cultural or sports event held in the college,” she said.
