Motorman hit by stone, takes train to terminal

MUMBAI: A CR motorman piloted a

train to its destination at Wadala despite being hit on the jaw by a stone flung from the slums as he was entering

Govandi

station around 10.45am on Monday.

If he had been unable to continue, a reliever would have had to be sent, and that could have thrown train schedules haywire.

Nitin Kamble, 41, who had set out from

, had met with a a similar incident four years ago. A bag of puja coconuts, weighed with a stone, had hit him on his chest between Khargar and

Mansarovar

when he was going at about 100kmph. He had managed to take the train to Panvel but was out of action for 3 months.

“The stone hit me on the left jaw when I was about to apply the brakes for the train to halt at Govandi station,” said Kamble. Though dizzy and in excruciating pain, he continued and took a five-minute halt at Kurla for firstaid. He has been checked by a doctor and advised to visit a dentist.
