Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run in Powai, temp driver booked for rash driving

Mumbai: A 40-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a hit-and-run at Powai on Friday. Powai Police registered a case of rash driving and negligence against the driver of a tempo who was involved in the crash. The accused, Zahid Ansari, is on the run.The deceased was identified as Virendra Mishra. Mishra lived in Powai.Police were informed about the crash around 4.40 pm. When they reached the crash location near Powai plaza on Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, they found a stationary motorcyclist and tempo on the road. A large crowd had gathered and traffic snarls had developed. Some of the people were carrying Mishra into an autorickshaw. They moved him to a local hospital.On making inquiries, police learnt that Mishra was crossing a junction to head towards Kanjurmarg. At that time, the tempo, which was moving from Kanjurmarg towards Jogeshwari, hit him. Mishra fell off, due to the impact, and injured his forehead, chin and eyelids. He was later moved to Rajawadi Hospital where he died at 5.23 pm.Based on the tempo's registration number, police tracked down its owner-- Parvez Alam. He was summoned to the police station. Alam told the police that the tempo was being steered by Ansari, who lives in Goregaon. Police are looking for him.
