‘More area to be added to Aarey forest’

Mumbai: State environment minister Aaditya Thackeray on Saturday announced that more area will be added to the Aarey forest soon. The announcement came even as Aarey activists have announced a demonstration on Sunday reviving their demand to shift the Metro Line 3 car shed out of Aarey Colony.The Shiv Sena led Maha Vikas Aghadi government had declared 812 acres of Aarey colony as reserved forest in 2020.It had even stayed work on the metro car shed as it proposed to move it to Kanjurmarg. The Kanjurmarg plot is, however, stuck in litigation with the Centre, and work on the ramp for allowing entry of metro trains into the car shed has been underway despite a stay order. TNN
