MUMBAI: Don't let the bright sunshine and cloudless sky con into leaving your umbrella at home before leaving for work. Though Mumbaikars have got a respite from heavy downpours, slushy streets and flooded railway tracks for the time being, the monsoon is not officially over, says the Met office.
Every year, the monsoon in India starts its retreat from places in the north-west, such as Rajasthan.
"Currently, it has not even begun its withdrawal from Rajasthan. So, Mumbai will definitely have to wait a little longer,'' said C V V Bhadram, deputy director-general of the Met department, Mumbai.
Across India, the monsoon is scheduled to start on June 1 and end on September 30. While the Met department is not taking any chances with predictions on the end of the monsoon this year, it also states that the rainy season should tentatively be over by the first week of October.
Bhadram insists that there has been no delay in monsoon withdrawal this year, a phenomenon that depends on atmospheric conditions.
