AMBERNATH: The Shivaji Nagar police have registered a case against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena MLA Ram Kadam and five others for forcefully taking the signature of a woman and her son to illegally take possession of their property. However, Pushpa Yadav, the complainant, was also booked for trying to commit suicide by setting herself on fire.
Besides Kadam, other accused in the case are Ramcharan Yadav, Dashrath Jadhav, Shiv Bachan Yadav, Raju and an unidentified woman.
The case has now been transferred to the Ghatkopar (W) police station.
The incident came to light on Sunday when Pushpa set herself on fire at her Ambernath home, alleging harassment by Kadam and his associates. She suffered 30% burns.
In a statement, she claimed she and her son Rajmangal had been running Gorakhnath Patpethi, an informal local bank in Vikhroli, since 1987. But as they suffered losses in the past few months, some investors approached Kadam to get their money back, the complaint stated. On Nov 3, some investors forcefully took Pushpa and her son to Kadam's office in Ghatkopar, where they were forced to sign on documents surrendering their property to repay investors.
Later, following a complaint by Pushpa, the police registered the case against Kadam and his associates. "We have registered a case in this matter on basis of the statements of the two victims. The case has now been shifted to the Ghatkopar (W) police station under whose jurisdiction the incident took place," said Shivaji Rathod, deputy commissioner of police, Zone 4.
