MUMBAI: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) spokesperson and former corporator Sandeep Deshpande was attacked with cricket stumps by unidentified people during morning walk at Dadar’s Shivaji Park on Friday.
Deshpande was alone when the incident took place.
Deshpande sustained serious injuries in his hand and leg. He is stated to be out of danger. He is recuperating in Hinduja Hospital.
The identity of the attackers is yet to be ascertained and their motive is also not clear.
MNS party chief Raj Thackeray was informed about the incident in the morning and he is likely to visit Deshpande.
The police was informed about the incident.
Deshpande’s party colleague Santosh Dhuri said, “We all come for the morning walk at the park everyday, today he (Deshpande) came first and he was walking alone when a group attacked him with stumps. It seems that the group was watching his movement for the last few days during morning walk and attacked him as he was alone. He had no personal enmity with anyone.”
Deshpande is very active on social media to promote his party and counter political opponents.
