MUMBAI: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) convened a meeting at Mantralaya on Thursday where it cleared the proposal for fare hike for autorickshaws and taxis in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and setting up of new auto-taxi stands outside Metro 3 and railway stations.

Sources in MMRTA said that the final quantum of hike and revised fare charts is yet to be announced and will be done in a day or two. A proper notification will be issued to all unions.

TOI had reported that the transport department had proposed a Rs 3 fare hike for both autos and taxis, ,which could take the minimum auto fare from Rs 23 to Rs 26 and minimum taxi fare from Rs 28 to Rs 31.

MMRTA also discussed the proposal for reducing AC bus fares in Thane by 35-50% and which will bring huge relief to thousands of commuters.
