Metro 3 restores south bound carriageway of DN road near Hutatma Chowk
MUMBAI: Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), which is executing the 33.5 km long underground Metro 3 corridor, has completed restoration of south-bound carriageway on DN Road near Hutatma Chowk.
MMRCL posted on its social media handle, “Road restoration work of south bound DN Road at Hutatma Chowk is now complete and has been opened for vehicular traffic. Opening of 390m long stretch in one go will help ease traffic congestion in this area.”
As part of the traffic management plan, most of the traffic was diverted onto steel decks that were constructed above the underground construction site. But the narrowing of the carriageway had led to traffic snarls at many places across the length of the entire Metro 3 corridor.
According to MMRC, 77% of road restoration is slated for completion by May, with the balance by December 2024.
A total of 19 stations have been built using the cut and cover method, and 7 through a combination of cut and cover and another technology.
In the cut and cover method, a stretch of road is dug up and then reinstated. Roads were also blocked at some spots where shafts were built to launch tunnel boring machines (TBMs).
