Mega art fair kick-starts in Mumbai today

Art aficionados are in for a treat as they can view 4,000 paintings, sculptures and photographs by Indian stalwarts and artists from across the globe at the India Art Festival (IAF), which starts on Thursday.
Forty galleries and 475 creative minds from Singapore, Dubai, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Russia and various parts of the country, are participating in the fair, hosted at Nehru Centre in 150 air-conditioned booths.
In IAF’s fifth edition, the artworks of stalwarts like Jogen Chowdhury, Ram Kumar, T Vaikuntham, Arpana Caur, Jatin Das, Satish Gujral and 50 other celebrated names along with established and emerging artists are up for sale.
This year, the module for the event has been slightly modified with it being held twice a year in two Indian cities. Rajendra, the founder and managing director of the festival, confirms, “The mission of IAF is to democratise the very functioning of the art market and the gallery system; we are taking this message to Delhi as well in January 2016 in our debut edition at the capital.” India Art Festival continues till Sunday at Nehru Centre, Worli, from 11 am to 7.30 pm daily.
