Medical aspirant killed in road accident in Bandra

Mumbai: A medical aspirant, who had recently appeared for the NEET exam, was killed in a road accident when a speeding truck collided with her scooter in Bandra (East) on May 20. The victim, Falak Shaikh (21), was on her way to her relative's home in Kurla after casting her first Lok Sabha vote when the tragic incident occurred. The Bandra Kurla Complex police mentioned that in the accident, Falak's cousin's sister, Kadirunnisa Shaikh (16), who was riding as a pillion, managed to escape with injuries.

The BKC police arrested the truck driver, Faizan Ansari, who is 35 years old, just a few metres away from the accident spot. Locals who witnessed the accident caught him, manhandled him, and then handed him over to the police. The police stated that the incident took place at 5.10 pm at Diamond Junction in BKC. A speeding truck collided with the victim's scooter. The truck ran over Falak, resulting in her immediate death.

The incident happened just 10 minutes after Falak voted with her parents at Gausiya Company in Nirmal Nagar locality, Bandra (East). This was their previous voting center before they moved to Mira Road because their house was being redeveloped. "We all first visited the place where we stayed earlier to see the redevelopment work before we went to the poll booth. I found out about my daughter's accident when my brother called me to say that both his daughter and mine were taken to Sion Hospital after being hit by a truck. My daughter had recently appeared for a medical entrance exam,” said Falak's father Irfan (47) to TOI.

The truck driver named Ansari has been charged under the Indian Penal Code for reckless driving, causing death due to negligence, and endangering lives. Additionally, he is also facing charges under the Motor Vehicle Act for dangerous driving.
