Medical admissions conclude amid chaos
MUMBAI: Amidst confusion, the final day of
Nearly 1,500 people, including
Students falling within 12,000 NEET ranks with all the requisite documents managed to get the seats. Confusion reigned even as the Aurangabad bench stayed the admission process for two hours in the afternoon as students there appealed against the government's condition of getting the original documents for spot admissions on Friday. Admissions re sumed post-lunch after the HC bench lifted the stay and directed the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) to admit students even with the photocopies. This meant that students who had already secured admissions in private and deemed colleges were also eligible to apply in the spot round, when earlier it was open only for students who were yet to get seats, said
While the 46 MBBS seats were filled by 6 pm, the wait for BDS aspirants got a little longer as the list was released later in the evening. Aspirants included students from other states too as the spot rounds were open for all-India quota seats.Several parents who came in from different states without the original documents left the place dejected in the morning session as DMER was not ac cepting their applications. But as soon as the new orders came in, many students returned. Some of the students and their parents came in as early as 7am on Friday .
Several non-meritorious students also waited on as they clung onto hopes desperately till all the vacancies were announced. But meritorious students on the other hand were jubilant as the last minute breather allowed them to get seats in good state colleges and were not forced to travel out of state. Many students who flew in from other states to try their luck in Maharashtra had to fly overnight, but most returned dejected. Shingare said that about five percent of the vacant seats went to students from outside state. Several students got seats in deemed universities too, as Friday was the last day for their admissions too.
