“The MCA constitution mandates elections to be held before September 30. Hence, it was decided to stick to the original date of polls on September 28 (as was decided in the Apex meet on July 26),” a source in MCA told TOI.

Reacting to reports in the media that the MCA elections were likely to be postponed as the BCCI had asked the state units to delay its polls pending its appeal in the Supreme Court on the cooling-off clause, a few members of the Apex Council-treasurer Jagdish Achrekar, and members Abhay Hadap, Ajinkya Naik and Kaushik Godbole had shot off a letter to MCA president Vijay Patil and other Apex members about the need to have polls on the original date of September 28.

Ranade named fielding coach

Former First-Class player Atul Ranade has been appointed as the Mumbai senior team’s fielding coach for the upcoming season.

Ranade, who has replaced ex-Mumbai pacer Wilkin Mota in the job, is the new member along with physio Deepak Parteki for the senior team’s support staff, with head coach Amol Muzumdar and bowling coach Vishal Mahadik continuing for this season. Mumbai had reached the final of the Ranji Trophy last season, where it lost to Madhya Pradesh.

The 49-year-old played six First-Class matches for Mumbai and Goa in the 90s. “I’m simply buzzed about the fact that I shall be a part of a great Mumbai dressing room to assist Muzumdar and help the young Mumbai Ranji team achieve greatness,” Ranade told TOI on Tuesday.
