Marathas start protest march from Byculla in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The Maratha community in Mumbai is holding a protest march under the banner of Maratha Kranti Morcha on Wednesday. The community started its silent march demanding reservation in higher education and government jobs in the state.

Zoo (Rani Baug) to

Azad Maidan

, where the Morcha delegation will go to meet chief minister Devendra Fadnavis along with legislators from Maratha community leaders led by former chief minister and Congress leader Narayan Rane. The delegation will submit its memorandum to Fadnavis.

Organisers of the Maratha Kranti Morcha appealed to the protesters to follow discipline, which was maintained in the last 57 "morchas" carried out in various districts.

The Maratha community has been demanding death sentence for the accused in the 2016 Kopardi (Ahmadnagar district) gangrape case. The community, without involving any politicians, have been demanding reservation and has raised the issue of misuse of the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and amendment in the Act, minimum support price (MSP) for farm produce.
