Navi Mumbai traffic police said that the accident occurred on the JNPT Road, near the `Y' junction at around 8.45 pm. The victims, Shiv Shyam Mishra and his teenaged son, Arjun Mishra, were killed on the spot due to the high impact between their Scorpio jeep and the trailer.
"The driver of the trailer abandoned his vehicle and fled the spot soon after the accident," said assistant inspector Vikram Jagtap of the Nhava Sheva police. "We are making inquiries and will arrest him soon.'' Both the deceased were residents of Kala Chowky in central Mumbai, and were returning home from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust.
