MUMBAI: A 21-year-old small-time trader was stabbed to death by four men in full public view at Nalasopara (east) on Saturday night.
Aditya Singh, a resident of Mateshwari apartments in Nalasopara (east) was at a friend Rajkumar Gupta's birthday party. Aditya was called to a spot near a bakery at Rehmat Nagar by an unidentified person. Aditya rushed to the spot.
Minutes later sensing trouble Gupta too reached the spot to find four men, later identified as Sajid Ali, Majid Ali,Vijay Kumar and Thapa, beating Singh.
As the suspects assaulted Singh, a huge crowd of onlookers watched. Sajid pulled out a sword and assaulted Singh. Gupta tried to intervene but was also assaulted. Gupta in his statement to the Tuling police said that despite pleading to the onlookers to call the police, nobody heard him. They all left the spot. It was Gupta who then called the police.
Singh, a supplier of building material, was declared dead before admission to the hospital. A case of murder and assault has been registered. The suspects are absconding. The cause of murder is not clear, said the police.
