Mumbai: Man held with charas worth Rs 85 lakh

MUMBAI: The Wadala police on Monday night arrested a 28-year-old man and seized around 17 kg charas valued at Rs 85 lakh. The accused has been booked under the Narcotic and Drugs Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Investigators said they had received a tip-off that a person would be coming to their area with banned narcotics. Working on the information, police personnel were deployed in the area. They stopped a person, Zahid Khan, who was riding a scooter. When the cops asked him what was in the gunny bag that he was carrying, he said it had black soap. “Prima facie, we found it was charas and the person was arrested,” said a police officer. Khan told police he was travelling from Sewri to Govandi.
