Man held for cheating 16 bank customers at ATM centres in Kalyan
KALYAN: The Mahatma Phule police in Kalyan have arrested a man for duping at least 16 bank customers of over Rs 8 lakh at ATMs by swapping their debit cards with expired one and later withdrawing money from their bank accounts.
The arrested accused identified as Deepak Jha. He is resident of Ulhasnagar. Police said they are also looking for one more associate of Jha who is involved with him in the crime.
The police have also recovered 92 ATM cards from the arrested accused.
The accused came on radar of police when recently two women approached Mahatma Phule police complaining that when they were trying to withdraw cash from ATM they were offered help by a man who couldn't get money but after some time they found money has been withdrawn from their bank.
Taking serious note of both complaint, DCP Sachin Gunjal and ACP Kalyanji Ghere formed a team under the supervision of Senior police Inspector Shailesh Salvi who checked into CCTV footage of ATMs and after identifying two accused finally has managed to nab Jha from Ulhasnagar.
Salvi said, "So far we have come to know that Jha with his one more accused friend who is on run has cheated at least 16 bank customers of over Rs 8 lakh and still probe is on to find if he cheated anybody else".
