Malad firing case: Accused produced in court after Delhi arrest, motive under probe

MUMBAI: A 35-year-old man was arrested from Delhi in connection with the incident where a realtor was shot at Malad East early Sunday. Raees Shaikh, the accused, was apprehended from Delhi by Kurar Police. He was produced before a magistrate court in Borivali on Tuesday. Police are questioning him about the motive.

Shaikh had shot at his friend, Abtullah Baig while the two were having drinks at Obaid compound in Sanjay Nagar early Sunday. Baig suffered an injury under his ear and is currently hospitalised. Police suspect the two men had a dispute.

Shaikh, also a realtor, previously worked for Baig. He was based out of Mumbai for the past 6 to 7 years. Around 10 days ago, he returned to Mumbai. The two men spent time together the intervening night between Saturday and Sunday. Police are probing whether the pistol used in the firing was licence. One empty cartridge was recovered from the crime scene.
