MUMBAI: The final rites of martyred Major Kaustubh Rane will be performed in
Mira Road on Thursday.
Rane (29) was among the four Indian Army soliders who were killed in an encounter on the Line Of Control (LOC) in north Kashimir’s Gurez sector in Bandipora district, around 125km from Srinagar, on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Hiral Sagar building in Sheetal Nagar, where Rane lived with his parents, sister, wife and son, saw huge crowds who hoped to catch a final glimpse of the soldier to pay homage.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted and extended solidarity with the family.
Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray spoke to Rane’s parents on phone, said a family member.
Local political leaders visited the family on Wednesday. Shiv Sena MLA from Thane Pratap Sarnaik and AAP Maharashtra state convenor Brigadier Sudhir Sawant called on the family.
Hoardings paying homage to Rane were put up across the Mira Road and Bhayander region.
