Maharashtra: World's largest elevator commissioned at BKC in Mumbai on National Technology Day

MUMBAI: The

world's largest elevator

with a capacity over 200 people was made operational at Jio Convention Centre (JWC) in Bandra Kurla Complex (

BKC

) in Maharashtra capital Mumbai on Wednesday marking the National Technology Day.

The new five-stop elevator installed at the JWC is the world’s heaviest at 16 tonnes.

National Technology Day is commemorated as an achievement of India's technical advances since May 11, 1998, the day the country successfully tested nuclear weapons in Pokhran.


The BKC is already home to 188 world-class elevators and escalators installed by KONE Elevators India.

The new elevator at JWC is a pure engineering marvel.

Spread over a floor area of 25.78 sq metre, it was carefully built and tested from the most-optimum-people-flow analysis, with high quality and safety aspects built in.

Designed as a centrepiece of the collaboration-focused design, the elevator provides visitors a glimpse into the expansive world of the Jio World Centre, BKC, which is India’s new landmark business and cultural destination, located in the heart of Mumbai.
