Maharashtra taking steps to implement zero waste and waste-to-energy projects, state’s sewage treatment plant will soon be developed as national model: Shinde
Mumbai: The sewage treatment plant model in Maharashtra has been very effective, and soon it will be developed as a ‘model’ at the national level, deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde said on Thursday. He further said that Maharashtra is currently taking concrete steps to implement the concepts of zero waste and energy generation from waste.
Shinde was speaking at the national review meeting of Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 organised by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
At the meeting chaired by Union Minister of Housing, Urban Development and Power Manohar Lal Khattar, with the housing ministers of various states and senior officials in attendance, Shinde made a detailed presentation of the various cleanliness campaigns and projects currently underway in Maharashtra. He stated that the important suggestions made by the Centre in the meeting will be strictly implemented in the state.
Shinde said the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is no longer limited to a government campaign, but has become a widespread mass movement. In Maharashtra, the work of converting waste into valuable resources is going on rapidly due to the effective implementation of Waste to Wealth project, compressed biogas project, and the state’s Green Policy. To accelerate this campaign, the state government is actively supporting various initiatives through the public-private partnership model, Shinde added.
The deputy CM highlighted the basic concept of cleanliness on this occasion. Shinde said that the aim of cleanliness is not limited to just keeping the surroundings clean, but the main goal is to bring about positive changes in the mindset and habits of the citizens and Maharashtra is succeeding in this.
