Govt renames state skills devpt univ after Tata

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Kaushalya Vidyapeeth has been officially renamed Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Kaushalya Vidyapeeth in recognition of late industrialist Ratan Tata's monumental contributions to industry and skill development.
Skill development minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha made the announcement on Monday, stating that the decision honours the industrialist's tireless efforts and support for the growth of new and emerging industries.
A towering figure in Indian industry, Tata played an unparalleled role in the development of numerous sectors, providing critical support to industries and creating opportunities for skill enhancement, said the university's founding vice-chancellor, Apoorva Palkar. The renaming of the Kaushalya Vidyapeeth is a tribute to his legacy, aligning with the institution's mission to provide skilled manpower to industries and empower the next generation of professionals.
"The renaming reflects Ratan Tata's vision of fostering technical growth and industry-ready talent," Lodha said, adding that students at this university, now bearing Tata's name, will take "immense pride in their education." The move also aims to bolster Maharashtra's role in providing skilled workers to the nation. — Hemali Chhapia
