"If BJP or any other party wants to hold educative events, we will fully support them. But if such political events are organised, we will not let it happen. I have asked schools to be more careful and not participate in political events," said Gaikwad.

The school management on Monday responded to the education department's show cause notice on why the school and students were involved in the political event. "We have told the department that the event wasn't meant for the schoolchildren but was held in a ground opposite the school and students participated as citizens and we couldn't stop them from coming to the programme," said school trustee and BJP functionary Sumita Singh. Department officials said an education officer will visit the school to gather details before deciding on the further course of action.

BJP has strongly objected to the notice. BJP leader

Kirit Somaiya

said he will file a police complaint against the notice and even officials who issued it. He has already sent a complaint to education department.

The education group postponed a similar programme scheduled for Monday for the students of Dayanand School and Global Wisdom School in Kandivli. "We did not get the right speaker and we also wanted to resolve this problem (Matunga programme) first," said Singh.
