The land, allotted to Vrindavan Charitable Trust on May 15, 1990, was for a lease of 30 years at the rate of 2% of land rate as on February 1976, and as per the agreement the lease rent was to be revised every 10 years. The revision in 2001 was based on a different formula, due to which the lease rent was working out to be higher.

Chaurasia had appealed to the government to revise his lease rent and the issue has been pending since 2001. "Since the issue has been pending since 2001, arrears and interest he would be eligible to pay the government come to Rs 80-85 lakh, which too has been waived today. His lease rent has been restored to the original," said an official.

His lease will end in February 2021.
