MUMBAI: A day after chief minister Eknath Shinde made fresh appointments to party positions in his faction, Shiv Sena party president Uddhav Thackeray promoted office-bearers and made new appointments. Former Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar and Yuva Sena functionary Amol Kirtikar were promoted as deputy leaders. Datta Dalvi, Kolhapur Sindhudurg district communication chief Arun Dudhwadkar, Jyoti Thackeray, Sanjana Ghadi and Asha Mamedi were also appointed as deputy leaders.
"BMC elections are around the corner. The polls are a make or break for Shiv Sena. Pednekar has been a popular Sena face as mayor. She was been taking on BJP so the party promoted her ahead of the polls as the former standing committee chairperson has jumped to the rebel side. Kirtikar is the son of Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar. The party is entrusting loyalists more responsibility. It is a mix of old and new," a Sena functionary said.
Last week, even Shinde made his own appointments of rebel MLAs and leaders on Shiv Sena posts, Uddhav appointed MP Arvind Sawant, MLA Bhaskar Jadhav as Sena leaders. Uddhav also appointed Parag Dake as party secretary. Parag is the son of former Sena minister and party veteran Liladhar Dake.
