Maharashtra government recommends renaming Sangli’s Islampur to Ishwarpur

The Maharashtra government has recommended to the central government that Islampur town in Sangli district be renamed Ishwarpur, as stated by Minister Chhagan Bhujbal in the assembly. This follows the recent renaming of Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Osmanabad to Dharashiv, and Ahmednagar to Ahilyanagar, with the Centre holding the authority to approve such changes.

MUMBAI: The state has sent a recommendation to the Centre to change the name of Islampur town in Sangli district to Ishwarpur, said minister Chhagan Bhujbal in the assembly on Friday. "The state cabinet sent the recommendation to the Centre since it has the authority to approve a change of name," said Bhujbal. Since 2022, Aurangabad has been renamed to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Osmanabad to Dharashiv, and Ahmednagar to Ahilyanagar.
