MUMBAI: The state has sent a recommendation to the Centre to change the name of Islampur town in Sangli district to Ishwarpur, said minister Chhagan Bhujbal in the assembly on Friday.

"The state cabinet sent the recommendation to the Centre since it has the authority to approve a change of name," said Bhujbal.

Since 2022, Aurangabad has been renamed to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Osmanabad to Dharashiv, and Ahmednagar to Ahilyanagar.
