MUMBAI: A few groups of farmers who are not happy with the core committee's decision to take back the strike on Saturday called for a
Maharashtra bandh on Monday. However, the response to the bandh has been lukewarm.
The response in areas like Nashik and some parts of Ahmednagar is very good as it is now the nerve centre of the strike. However, areas like Pune, Kolhapur, Solapur which were ahead in the
farmers' strike
, the response to the strike has been moderate.
The strike has only marginally affected the supplies to Mumbai. The fruits and vegetables supplies to Mumbai have increased and are almost at par with the normal.
On Monday morning, 340 trucks of fruits and 480 trucks of vegetables arrived in
Mumbai APMC market
, which is almost at par with the normal. The normal arrivals range between 400-450 trucks everyday.
However, prices in some parts of the city may be high not because of the lack of supply but due to the confusion about the strike.
Milk tankers were to be brought to Mumbai from the neighbouring cities in police protection as farmers had blocked some of the highways and could have spilled the milk on the roads to not allow it to reach Mumbai.
