Maharashtra excise flying squads seize Rs 1.05 crore IMFL

MUMBAI: The flying squads of the state excise seized a huge stock of

IMFL

worth over Rs 1.05 crore in two separate actions while being illegally transported via Mumbai and Western Maharashtra from Goa. According to excise officials the stock, manufactured in Goa, was meant to be sold within Goa permit area and not beyond.

However, it was being illegally transported to and via Maharashtra when the squads swooped down on the liquor-carrying trucks on

and Beed-Osmanabad highways The actions were personally monitored by state excise commissioner Kantila Umap, Konkan divisional deputy commissioner Sunil Chavan and director of vigilance state excise Usha Verma.

In the first action the flying squad led by Santaji Lad trapped a goods carrier truck (HR 39 E 9369) registered in Harayana while it was parked at Kinara Dhaba near

garden restaurant at Palaspe village near Panvel on Goa-Mumbai national highway. The truck contained 500 boxes of

, officers choice blue whisky and old monk rum bottles (all of 180ml and 750 ml sizes) worth Rs 56.50 lakh. While the driver and cleaner have been arrested, the suspected accused have also been booked.

Similarly another flying squad led by inspector Manoj Chavan trapped another Madhya Pradesh-registered 10-wheeler trailer truck (MP09HF8604) in front of hotel Shivneri family restaurant within the Pimpaleshwar village area in Vashi taluka of Osmanabad district on Beed-Osmanabad highway. This truck had a stock of 575 boxes of 180 ml royal blue whiskey bottles worth Rs 43.90 lakh which has been seized along with the truck. While the driver and cleaner, residents of Madhya pradesh, have been arrested, the other two suspected accused have been booked. Further investigations are underway, revealed a press release issued by the department.

Excise police staff namely Pramod Kamble, Dilip Kalel, Prashant Nikalje, Vishal Bastav, Sadashiv Jadhav, Amol Chilgar, Ravi Patil, Somnath Patil, Dhanaji Davli, Subhash Rankhamb, D J davli, and Sudhir Desai participated in the actions.
