Maharashtra bandh: Maratha protesters turn violent in Pune

The Maratha quota stir took a violent turn in Pune and the police were forced to resort to lathicharge to disperse more than 1,000 stone pelting protesters.

Security has been beefed up in Maharashtra as Sakal Maratha Samaj, an umbrella body of Maratha groups has called for a state-wide bandh on Thursday over reservation issue.
Addressing the media, a leader of the Sakal Maratha Samaj, Amol Jadhavrao said that the state-wide bandh would be observed in a peaceful manner from 8 am to 6 pm. However, the bandh will not be observed in the Navi Mumbai.

Nagpur: District collector Ashwin Mudgal says no decision yet on keeping schools closed on August 9 due to Marathi morcha. Mudgal told TOI that no apprehensions have been raised yet over law and order situation.
Nagpur City cops says they will be having a strong presence on the street tomorrow to ensure that no untoward incident occurs. Bhushan Upadhyay, city police commissioner, told TOI "We have conveyed to the morcha organizers that violence of any kind won't be tolerated. They too have promised us that everything will be peaceful tomorrow. The police department will ensure a heavy presence of cops across the city."
