Maha CM hands over Naigaon BBD chawl flats to 864 families

Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday handed over keys to 864 families in the first phase of the Naigaon BDD Chawl Redevelopment Project carried out through Mhada. The families rehabilitated in new flats were tenants under the redevelopment of the Bombay Development Directorate (BDD) chawls. CM Fadnavis said BDD chawl redevelopment project will improve the quality of life of residents. DCMs Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar were also present along with Mhada Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal. Fadnavis said their goal is to hand over the keys for all the homes to the residents by 2029. "This govt is committed to making the dream of a house for the middle class in Mumbai a reality. Residents of BDD chawls should not sell their houses. Development of the BDD chawls in Mumbai will lead to a major improvement in the quality of life of the residents," said CM Fadnavis. "BDD chawls redevelopment project was pending for many years and faced many challenges. Due to this, the state government decided it would take up this project instead of relying on commercial builders," CM Fadnavis said. "Redevelopment projects of around 1,000 acres have been undertaken in Mumbai. Mumbai is going to change to a large extent, the common man will get a house in Mumbai. The state government is trying to change the lives of the common man. Under this project, instead of the old 160 sq ft homes, residents are being given 2bhk flats with modern facilities of about 500 sq ft. area free of cost," said CM Fadnavis.
