the director of yeh raaste hain pyaar ke, deepak shivdasani, prefers to be low key. but that isn't the case when it comes to his fascination for madhuri dixit, says afsana ahmed. have you celebrated the fact that you finally convinced madhuri to do your film? i was thrilled! believe me, it was a difficult task. i always wanted to direct madhuri , but she was never confident of my proposals.
i had ap-proached her for bhai, she turned it down. next i had written a script on a deaf and dumb girl, long ago when she was doing sangeet. even that didn't appeal her. so i had to drop that script. this time i knew that neha in yeh raaste hain pyaar ke could not be aptly essayed by anyone but madhuri. was her marriage a problem in the shooting proceedings? the best part about the whole thing is that i, being the director of the film, didn't know about her marriage. she wanted to go to the states, and when she came back, i went to meet her to to discuss something. i found mickey contractor standing outside her room, and he asked me about madhuri's marriage party the next day. i was clueless and dumbstruck. she was the heroine of my film and i wasn't aware of her marriage! i did feel little bad, but it was fine. when i went in and asked her about it, she blushed, and believe me, i haven't seen madhuri so beautiful till date. are you cashing on sunny deol's popularity by casting him in a guest appearance? initially i wanted to keep sunny's guest appearance a secret. but later when news started filtering out from my unit, i thought it was best to make it public. that's why we started showing him in the promos. afsana.ahmed@timesgroup.com
