MUMBAI: The producer of Deepa ki Tarannum, a film said to be based on bar dancer Tarannum's life, approached a civil court on Thursday asking for the stay on the film to be vacated. Shooting of the film had been stayed after Tarannum said that the producer had not sought her permission to make the film.Producer Ranjit Sharma said the film was not based on Tarannum's life and that she needed to prove this in court.
He also pleaded he was incurring heavy financial losses since the shooting had been stopped by the court.
The film stars actor Preetii Jaiin in the title role as Tarannum and shooting had begun after she was released from custody. Jaiin was under arrest on allegations of paying a contract killer to murder director Madhur Bhandarkar who she alleged had raped her. Jaiin is said to have met Tarannum when the latter was in custody in cricket match-fixing and gambling case.
