MUMBAI: An executive Sanjay Vichare, who had leased out his Borivli apartment and moved to Pune earlier this year, was shocked to discover that his credit card, which he had forgotten behind in the flat, was misused. According to the police, the card was used for buying diamonds worth Rs 86,000. Vichare was intimated about the purchase by his bank later, but it took him some time to figure out who could have made away with his card.
By then, his tenant, Rahul Sharma, had already locked the flat and escaped.
"We have registered a complaint against Sharma under sections 420, 465, 471 and 380 for cheating. Our team is looking for him," said senior inspector Ravi Thakur.According to the police, Vichare (35) used to live in Nancy colony at Dahisar till earlier this year. In April, he moved to Pune and leased out his flat at Gomati Green View building to Sharma. The police do not know what Sharma does for a living. During the shifting of his belongings, Vichare left behind a wooden cupboard. Unknown to him, his credit card was left behind in the cupboard. Then on June 15, his card-issuing bank intimated him about huge purchases made using the card. "Nakshatra diamond jewellery worth Rs 86,000 had been bought from Neelam jewellers using the card. Our team will be making inquiries with the jewellery shop owner for finding out about the culprit," Thakur said.When Vichare visited his Dahisar apartment recently, Sharma was missing. He had also stopped responding to phone calls. Vichare then pressed charges against him at the Dahisar police station. An FIR was recorded on Sunday night, said officials.The detection team from the Dahisar police station are investigating the case.
