KALYAN: The Bazarpeth police on Monday arrested Anjum Bhatkar (48), who gave her flat on rent to Rizwan Khan, who reportedly forced a Kerala youth to convert to Islam and join the IS. Anjum, accused of not informing police before renting out the flat, was released on bail. Rizwan, who hails from Tamil Nadu, had been living in Surya Mukhi building in Kalyan since four years.

In October 2012, Rizwan told Bhatkar he wanted to conduct tuitions in the flat, but started living there will his family and also ran a marriage bureau. Investigators claimed to have seized documents from the flat which showed that around 800 people have converted to Islam.
Sharad Shelar, Thane additional commissioner, said, “We often appeal to flat owners to inform the police while giving flats on rent. We will again initiate a similar awareness campaign.”
