Kolhapure sisters celebrate father’s birthday with a rudra veena recital

Shraddha Kapoor along with her family members Shivangi Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Siddhanth Kapoor, Priyank Sharma and others celebrated Late Pt Pandharinath Kolhapure birth anniversary on Friday.

Padmini said, “We celebrated my father’s birthday with this special concert.He founded this trust to propagate, teach and keep the rudra veena alive. My grandfather was a rudra veena player and my dad was a vocalist, who later on in life picked it up. We have this very old rudra veena with us which is almost 150 years old. This one was brought down from Murad Khan Sahab to my grandfather and it is with us now. The Rudra Veen is a very difficult instrument to play.”
The artistes who performed that evening include Vidushi Jyoti Hegde who is the first woman Rudra Veena player, Savaniee Ravindrra, singer and disciple of Pt.Pandharinath Kolhapure and Sukhad Manik Munde on pakhawaj.
