MUMBAI: The Worli police on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old Nepali man after he was thrashed by a mob for allegedly attempting to kidnap three children in Worli. However, two associates of the accused managed to flee. The children were rescued by local youths, the police said.
According to senior inspector Ramakant Dhole, who is heading the probe, the boys were playing at night when the three accused arrived.

"The accused tried to kidnap three kids, Sufi (3), Arshad (5) and one other child.
But one of the children's grandfather, a retired employee of Air India, spotted the three men and called to the youths for help. Two men managed to flee, but Gopi Arjun Vishwakarma was arrested," said Dhole.
A mob caught Vishwakarma and thrashed him. A bleeding Vishwakarma was taken for treatment and a medical examination revealed the injuries were not serious.
"People are reading about what had happened in Noida (where missing children were found murdered by a pair of alleged paedophiles) and also watching it on TV. Therefore, they became even more angry. We are hunting for the two others now," said Dhole.
Sources said that Vishwakarma resided at Parel and didn't know Hindi. A Nepali watchman is helping the police communicate with Vishwakarma.
