. Ninety-three-year-old music composer
Khayyam, his wife singer
Jagjit Kaur
and veteran actor
Vidya Sinha are being treated for various ailments.
Khayyam has a cult following, thanks to his compositions for Phir Subah Hogi, Shankarhusain, Umrao Jaan, Bazaar and Razia Sultan. His wife Jagjit Kaur and singer Talat Aziz rushed him to Sujay Hospital on July 28. Dr Abhishek Bhargav said, “He has Influenza A and bilateral pneumonia and is on non-invasive ventilation. His pulse and blood pressure are normal. But it (recovery) will take time.”
In an unfortunate turn of events, Khayyam’s wife Jagjit Kaur, known for her songs ‘Tum apna ranj o’ gham’ and ‘Dekh lo aaj humko ji bharke’, too, fell sick and was taken to the same hospital “with hypoglycaemia (low sugar) and chest infection. She will most likely be discharged by Monday,” said Dr Bhargav.
Vidya Sinha (72) who acted in Rajnigandha, Pati Patni Aur Woh and Chhoti Si Baat, is in Criticare Hospital nearby. She was led in a few days ago after complaining of breathlessness. Her daughter Jahnavi is by her side.
