MUMBAI: A 25-year-old Kenyan national who allegedly smuggled 2.5kg of gold metal bars and assorted gold jewellery worth Rs 1.09 crore was arrested by the Customs at Mumbai International airport on Monday.
On the specific information that one female passenger from Kenya was carrying gold, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs intercepted her after she arrived from Nairobi via Addis Ababa by Ethiopian airlines.
She was identified as Maryan Nabhsir and her personal search resulted in the recovery of 22 kt gold melted bars and 21 KT gold assorted jewellery. The agency said that she failed to provide any justification for carrying so much gold.
