Mumbai: J&K villagers Rakesh Sharma and Vikramjeet got a hereos’ welcome in the city and were presented Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj bravery awards at the Mumbai Press Club on Thursday for overpowering Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist Mohammad Naveed alias Mohammad Usman, and handing him over to the security forces.
Trophies sporting a bust of the Maratha warrior king were presented to them, along with Rs 1 lakh each, by the All-India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF), an organization led by social worker and former politician M S Bitta.
The brothers-in-law showed remarkable courage in nabbing the Pakistani terrorist from the forest in Chirdi village, in Udhampur district, on August 5. Rakesh said he wanted to serve the country, while Vikramjeet, when asked about his expectations from the government, said he would like better roads in his village, and improved electricity services. They sought security for their families and fellow villagers.
Also present at the function was Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, known for his patriotic roles. “They are the real heroes; I have come here to meet them as a fan,” he said. On whether a film can be made based on the incident, he said, “I see the potential of a super-hit film in this story.”
