Inspection Conducted for Land Required for Technical Building of Orange Gate–Marine Drive Twin Tunnel Project

Mumbai: A high-powered committee for the construction of a technical building required for the twin tunnel project from Orange Gate to Marine Drive, inspected the land required for the technical building near Girgaon chowpatty on Tuesday. BMC Additional Commissioner Ashwini Joshi directed MMRDA to verify and submit a proposal to BMC regarding the construction of the said building at the location of the basketball ground at Mafatlal Swimming Pool.The Orange Gate to Marine Drive twin tunnel project, which is being implemented by the the MMRDA, about 10 kilometre long, of which about seven kilometres is underground. Under this project, two separate tunnels are being constructed, which will have multi-lane routes for traffic, emergency facilities and state-of-the-art security systems. A technical building is necessary for the operation of this tunnel, but prior permission of the High Power Committee is required for carrying out any construction on Girgaon Chowpatty. A meeting was held at the BMC headquarters on June 8 by High Power Committee chairman Rafique Dada and secretary of the committee cum Additional Commissioner Ashwini Joshi. The meeting directed that it should be examined whether the building could be constructed at another location instead of Girgaon Chowpatty, and that a site inspection should be conducted for the same. Accordingly, a joint site inspection was conducted by the High Power Committee, to examine the construction of the technical building of this project at another location instead of Girgaon chowpatty.
